Three casualties of wasp stings, and my poor broken knees. When we got inside I made a paste of baking soda and water and applied it to the stings. Dyl and Saveia both said it helped a lot, but Zoey didn't want to be touched at all. She seemed to be the worst off. She was stung several times on her face, her ear and neck.
She just needed to be held. It took me about 30 minutes to come down from the adrenaline rush. I assume she and her siblings had to do the same, but more so.
She took a short nap.
And felt a little better afterwards.
I think she is the cutest little quasimodo...
I wish someone had recorded me racing down to the creek though. It was "America's Funniest Home Videos" worthy. I would have won that $20k prize when I flipped over that log and landed on my face for sure. Thankfully my looks haven't been damaged too much. ;) However, my back and neck have something to say about it.
Five wasps had followed us into the house and each time we saw one, the kids freaked out. Shrieks of, "A bee! A bee!" and in Zoey's case, "Beebeebeebeebee!" echoed off the bathroom walls until Jonathan killed each and every one.
After the baking soda, and putting Zoey down for a nap, Summer began illustrating a series of pictures she titled It's Not a Good Time To:
For instance, "It's Not a Good Time to Get Married." The series later morphed into an amalgam of natural disasters including tsunamis, lava flows and earthquakes, but they all started with the idea that a little black and yellow bug could ruin everything. I did try to stress that the attackers were wasps, not bees. But I'm not sure the distinction meant anything to the kids. I did try to explain the difference!
Later, Jonathan put on the Scrat shorts promoting Ice Age 3 for the kids. In one, Sid gets chased by a swarm of bees. Not a laugh was had. Because, it was not funny.
Dylan told me several times that he was never going outside again, or going down to the creek ever again. I took them for a walk in the afternoon, but they have seriously been traumatized. Dylan wanted to ride in the stroller at first, with the mesh screen pulled down so no wasps could get him and Zoey. In the end he rode his tricycle. And thankfully, we saw no wasps at all.
What an awful story! Bugs are not your friend this week, huh? Hope everyone is feeling better.
